Junior sew Club 2010

Your kids, ages 8 to 15 yrs are invited to come and have fun learning the basic skills of sewing while they make a variety of crafty, home dec., and clothing projects.
*No sewing skills required.
*Seating is limited to 8 students per class. You must pay in advance to reserve your seat.
*Kids need to bring their own machine or contact Jenny for borrowing arrangements.

Fee: $18 per class (fabrics & supplies provided)

November Embroidery Club (Nov. 19 5-7:30pm)

The November Embroidery Club project is an Applique design on a linen guest towel. You will learn how to make a perfect applique design every time using the Fuse N Stick stabilizer in addition to the Adhesive Sew and Wash. A linen towel with an applique design is on display at the store.

Supply List:
  • Linen Towel
  • Embroidery Thread (red, greeen gold metallic for tree)
  • Adhesive Sew & Wash Stabilizer
  • Fuse N' Stick Stabilizer
  • 5x7 hoop preferred. Will work with 4x4 or 5x5 hoop.
  • Craft Iron (one will be available at the store for you to use)
  • 4x6 fabric for tree applique.
  • Craft Iron

At Embroidery Club you will stitch one applique design to learn the technique. Designs by Marje 2009 Holiday Embroidery Design Collection will be given to all attendees.

Janome Embroidery Club - December Project

Project: Embroidered Button-Up Gift Bag w/ Removable Handle
(makes a great gift bag to fill with treats or use as a handy wrist tote)
Bonus: Button Sewing Foot Demo

Note: You will learn how to embroider and assemble this custom gift bag designed by Jenny Gabriel. Learn to make Buttonholes, French Seams, & Trick Binding for contrast edges. The snowflake & swirls design for this project will be provided for use on your class project only. You must purchase the design cd if you wish to keep the design for use on your future projects. All threads, stabilizers, and the Anita Goodesigns – Snow Fun are available at Humble Sewing Center.

Project Supply List:
  • Main Fabric 3/8 yard of 45" wide fabric (do not get a fabric with a one-way design)
  • 3/4 yard of Heavy weight fusible interfacing (do not get the stiff as cardboard kind!)
  • Lining Fabric 3/8 yard of 45" wide fabric
  • 2 Buttons size 3/4"
  • 1 spool of all purpose thread
  • 2 colors of embroidery thread for snowflakes & swirls design
  • Water soluble marking pen or chalk
  • Hand Sewing Needle
  • Straight Pins
Misc. Supplies:
  • Embroidery Machine & accessories
  • You will need a Sewing Machine for this class
  • fabric cutting scissors
  • embroidery thread & pre-wound embroidery thread bobbins
  • embroidery needles
  • sharp pointed small scissors
  • embroidery hoops A (4”x5”) & B (5”x7”) w/ plastic grids
  • optional: Embroidery Tool Kit or Perfect Placement Kit (helps make design placement easy)
Please prepare your fabric before class!
1. Main Fabric: cut one 11" x 23 1/2" rectangle
2. Lining Fabric: cut one 11" x 26" rectangle
3. Lining Fabric: cut one 3" x 16" rectangle for the handle
4. Fusible Interfacing: cut one 11" x 23 1/2" rectangle
5. Fusible Interfacing: cut one 3" x 16" rectangle for handle
6. Fuse 11" x 23 1/2" interfacing to wrong side of main fabric rectangle
7. Fuse 3" x 16" interfacing to wrong side of 3" x 16" lining fabric

Never sewn a stitch in your life and can’t figure out how to use your sewing machine? Try this introductory class and fall in love with how easy sewing can be!
  • Learn the basics of using your sewing machine
  • Learn beginner sewing skills – sewing a straight line, sewing around curves, turning corners, and even put in a simple zipper! Don’t be scared! This is a super easy method – you’ll love it!
  • Make 2 quick and easy projects during this 2 ½ hour class: “Stitch & Flip Neck Purse” and “Easy Zip Pouch”
  • All fabrics and supplies are provided! A $10 value!
