October Embroidery Club Project

Embroidery Off the Edge
Thursday, October 22 from 5-7:30 pm
Fee $15

Add an embroidery design off the edge of a table napkin.
Supply List:
• Purchased table napkin, table runner or table cloth.
• Embroidery Thread for acorn design or to contrast or to match your napkin.
• Adhesive Sew & Wash Stabilizer
• If you have Sonia Showalter’s Acorn Corner Embroidery design you can use it. If not, I will provide a scallop edge embroidery design to use for class which is a one color design.
• 4x4 or 5x7 hoop.

Project:
Snow Man Embroidery and Applique on a Hand Towel

Note: You will learn how to do custom applique on difficult surfaces such as towels. The snowman design for this project will be provided for use on your class project only. You must purchase the design cd if you wish to keep the design for use on your future projects. All threads, stabilizers, and the Anita Goodesigns – Snow Fun are available at Humble Sewing Center.

Bonus Demo: See how the Janome Ribbon & Sequin foot makes couching embellishments a breeze.

Project Supply List:
1. tear away stabilizer (E-Z Tear)
2. water soluble stabilizer (Sulky Solvy)
3. 4”x5” remnant of white fabric or Alova for snowman body
(Alova is sort of a faux suede & is available at Joann Fabrics)
4. 16”x26” hand towel – any color you want
5. 9 colors of embroidery thread for snowman design
  • white – snowman inner outline
  • baby blue – snowman outline & snowflake
  • pink – snowman cheek
  • orange – snowman carrot nose
  • black – snowman facial features
  • 2 shades of red or 2 misc. colors for hat
  • 2 shades of blue or 2 misc. colors for scarf & hat
Misc. Supplies:
  • Embroidery Machine & accessories

Creative Serging For Beginners Details & Supply List

Fee: $40 includes workbook and fabric kit (limit of 6 students per class)

Want to find out what your serger can do? Need an easy class to get you started? This is the class for you!

Sergers can create exclusive decorative effects that regular sewing machines and embroidery machines cannot do. (ie. lettuce edged rolled hem found on children’s stretchy clothing)

During Jenny Gabriel’s 2 ½ hour class, you will learn practical and decorative serging techniques, experiment with using various specialty threads in your serger, and complete a workbook full of great serger tips and instructions.
(All skill levels welcome. All serger brands welcome.)

Supply List: Supplies are available at Humble Sewing Center on or before the day of class.
Serger (*in good working condition) with all of its accessories and if possible, the manual, 4 cones of regular serger thread, 1 spool of Poly yarn any color, 1 spool of Designer 6 any color –or 1 spool of Serger metallic thread ie. Gold Candlelight -or 1 spool of Pearl Crown Rayon
Scissors, Scotch tape, Pen for notetaking, Tweezers, At least 2 size 14 needles
*Please make sure your serger is working properly before class date. Unfortunately, no refunds will be given if your machine breaks down during class.

October Babylock Club Supply List

Babylock Club   October 9 from 10-12:30pm
This month in Babylock club we will discuss the different methods of stitching an applique' and the many type of applique'. We will applique' a tree or heart that can later be sewn into a pin cushion or just to learn the technique of appliques.

We will also learn how to embroidery an applique' design (penguin or snowflake) on a hand towel (terry or woven).

Supply List:
  • Bring machine with applique'/open toe foot, embroidery foot and hoop (4x4 of 5x7)
  • 1 or 2 hand towels (can purchase at the store)
  • 1 5x7 piece of water soluble stabilizer (topping, like solvy)
  • 2 8x10 pieces of fusible tearaway stabilizer
  • 1 pair of embroidery scissors
  • 1 bobbin w/bobbin thread
  • Embroidery Thread: red, green white, black, yellow, orange, brown and light blue (snowflake).
Optional: 
  • 1.4 yd. fusible web (light weight wonder under or allene's)
  • a few fabric scraps (red, green, black, white)
  • ribbon or trim for towel
